Lan shou six Harmonies Saber from Chinese Kung fu

 
 

Six Harmonies Saber is from the Lan Shou system of Chinese Martial arts.  There is another Chinese martial art that is known as Six Harmonies and it is a very good system.  The core form of Six Harmonies Kung Fu was taught by Grand Master Wong Jackman to supplement the Northern Shaolin and Xing Yi Quan that he taught.  However,  the Six Harmonies Saber from Lan shou has no relation to Six Harmonies Kung fu. Six Harmonies are a guiding concept in many Kung Fu styles in much the same as the Tai Chi concept is, and will be discussed in a separate web page in the future.


Six Harmonies Saber is like the directors cut of the Uplifting Step Saber.  Uplifting Step Saber has everything it needs and stands alone with strength.  However,  Six Harmonies Saber has almost every single technique and combination in Uplifting Step Saber and then many more.  Six Harmonies Saber is much more difficult and contains about twice as many movements. 


Some of the things that this form really explores that few saber forms do are pommel strikes and wrist locks with the pommel.  There are also some really excellent neck level slashing techniques that are extremely powerful and practical.  Some of the moves, especially the opening sequence, require good left brain right brain connection.  Like rubbing your belly and patting your head at the same time.  When you train moves that require strong left brain right brain coordination it develops that coordination.  Funny thing is, it usually takes that coordination to defend against them successfully.  This makes it very difficult for an opponent who has not undergone similar training!


Most of the moves in this form are totally practical and almost none are flashy.  There are no flying kicks for example.


This not a good form for a beginning weapons practitioner to learn first.  It is really a practical form for the expert who wants all the tricks.  The flow and choreography of this form are also excellent so it feels really good to do.
