uplifting step saber from chinese kung fu
Uplifting Step Saber is from the Lan Shou system of Chinese martial arts. This is the first of the Lan Shou Saber forms. Uplifting Step Saber really connects to the Lan Shou Kung Fu style. In particular, the same patterns of body movement in the empty hand forms and the spear forms also are seen in Up Lifting Step Saber.
One of the core movements or combinations of Lan Shou Saber is a simultaneous circular downward parry with a side step, and grab by the empty hand followed by a strong saber slash and further step forward. In one move you dodge by side stepping or slipping, parry the opponents weapon and grab either their hand or the shaft of their weapon, if it is a long weapon. The follow up downward slash could also be a pommel strike if you are close enough, or if you are not, then it can attack the opponents body, arm, or wrist depending on range. This technique works equally well against Spear, Staff, and Kwan Dao thrusts and against sword and saber thrusts.
If the opponent survives this awesome counter attack sequence then the rest of the Lan Shou Saber system comes into play. This sequence is repeated eight times during the form and each time it followed by other excellent techniques.
Uplifting Step Saber has many leaps and hops that make the form fairly strenuous for its rather short length of about forty moves. This is also a good first weapon form to learn. Because the choreography and flow are excellent it is really fun to preform and looks pretty good even though it has almost no flashy moves. The tactical strategy of the form is excellent so it is definitely another stake your life on it kind of form.
