Lineage Arts
Lineage Arts
The Lineage Arts Programs are serious courses of study that take years to complete and build a high level of skill. The Lineage Arts classes are available by invitation only after participating in other classes.
We are looking for students who are of good character, will avoid trouble, and use the arts wisely.
Joining the Lineage Arts Program represents a commitment to attend class regularly and work towards a Black Sash Rank.
The knowledge taught in this program is rare and valuable.
A respectful attitude that shows appreciation for the prior generations of Masters who perfected and transmitted the arts is essential.
These arts are not competitive sports. They are not sparring arts, but serious battlefield skills relied on by professional warriors for supremacy.
There is a method to these arts, if you persevere you will succeed. The only way to fail is to quit.
What does Lineage Arts Mean?
The concept of lineage refers to the historical transmission of the art from one generation of Kung Fu masters to the next. Many old styles had public students who learned a limited portion of the art for their practical needs and disciples who learned the entire art.
Disciples went thru a special ceremony bowing before the master, presenting gifts, and pledging loyalty and obedience for life. This solemn ceremony created a real bond and commitment.
Disciples were members of a family with the teacher being the father. The other disciples were older or younger brothers or sisters depending on when they joined. The Masters Kung Fu brothers would be his students uncles etc. Members of the family were expected to support, help, and protect one another like a real family. This ceremony is rarely performed in USA.
Somewhere between making real progress and attaining mastery a student would be considered to be a member of the lineage.
Earning a Black Sash in Kung Fu
The level system is a creation of Head Instructor Scott Jensen to encourage the students of the Ten Thousand Victories Kung Fu Academy and to acknowledge their progress. If one traveled to the Shaolin Temple in China, one might find these forms being practiced, but would not find monks wearing sashes which corresponded to the Ten Thousand Victories Kung Fu Academy. The level system is intended to be fun and to clearly structure students’ study. The levels granted by the Ten Thousand Victories Kung Fu Academy will also generally correspond to the perceptions of the equivalent colored belts in other systems as taught in the United States. In many cases, more forms of a more difficult nature are required to progress than in most other systems especially when compared to the martial sports or spiritual path arts.
Because of the difficulty and advanced nature of the forms, the large quantity of material, the emphasis on real martial techniques, extensive weapons requirements, and prestigious history Northern Shaolin and Lan Shou Quan should be considered an “elite” system. Earning a Black Sash is an outstanding achievement. Everyone who succeeds should experience a deep feeling of satisfaction.
