Northern Shaolin Kung fu

The Small Circles Form is slightly longer than Continuous Steps and is also more compact.  This form is fast moving, aggressive, and contains a good mix of techniques including punches, kicks, joint locks, throws, sweeps, and elbow strikes.  The movements are more complicated than either Springy Legs or Continuous Steps and include many circular or spiraling movements.

These movements and the variety in the form help to  build coordination and expand the tactical options available to the student.  Small Circles introduces the Crouching stance, the Sixty-Forty (Arrow) stance, the Seventy-Thirty (Seven Stars) stance, and the Side kick.  Small Circles improves the coordination of the elbows and the ability to change directions frequently.

The history and origin of this form are also vague some people claim that it is also the only form remaining from a lost system.  Others say that it was created by Yim Sheung Mo and contains his favorite techniques.  If it is Yim Sheung Mo’s form it is an excellent contribution from a famous teacher.

This form is definitely more advanced than the previous two and has the most interesting choreography so far.  Small Circles takes about two months to learn.
